Archive for the ‘UK National Lottery’ Category

The Camelot Group operates the UK National since 1994. The government has relicensed the Camelot in 2001 as well as in 2007. The National Lottery Commission regulates the National Lottery. The value of one UK National Lotto ticket is one pound. Fifty percent of the amount generated by the players is forwarded directly to the collective prize fund. The other 28 pence is then invested for Good Causes fund which was founded by the parliament, 12p is then passed over to the British Government, 5p comprises of the commission meant for the sellers, while the rest of the 5p is forwarded to the Camelot Group.
The National Lottery players need to choose six numbers between 1 and 49. Players who succeed in matching three or above numbers are qualified for prizes, while larger prizes are meant for players who succeed in matching more numbers. Players who succeed in matching all six are declared the winner of the game.

Brits banking on bumper lottery jackpots!

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

The chance of winning a life-changing bumper lottery jackpot is the optimistic expectation for cash-strapped families across Britain as sales of National Lottery tickets hit record highs, and follows Camelot’s strategy for responsible growth by encouraging many people to play but to actually spend relatively small amounts.

UK National Lottery operator Camelot revealed yesterday that lottery ticket sales were up a fifth to £3.2 billion (US$5 billion) in the six months to 24 September, marking the group’s best ever interim period and ranking Camelot as the seventh largest lottery in the world in terms of sales

The lottery has created 2,700 millionaires and multi-millionaires to date, including Colin and Chris Weir from Largs in Scotland who won a mind-blowing £161 million (US$254 million) in the EuroMillions lottery in August and promptly entered the record books by becoming Scotland’s biggest ever lottery winners.

Camelot also revealed that the rise in sales had led to increased returns of £918.3 million (US$1.4 billion) to good causes, up from £784.8 million (US$1.2 billion) last year. Since launching the UK National Lottery in 1994 Camelot has paid out £27 billion (US$42.6 billion) for good causes and £40 billion (US$63 billion) in prize money.

Each of the seven categories were announced during a televised ceremony from London on bonfire night hosted by classical musician and TV / radio presenter Myleene Klass. Eight hundred Lottery-funded projects entered this year’s awards when they were launched in January; these were whittled down to a short-list of 10 projects per category by an independent panel of judges, with the final winners chosen by public vote.

The Winners!

The Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre in Leeds – Best Arts Project.

Duchenne, an on-line literacy programme for boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – Best Education Project.

The Green Valley Centre in Bryncynon, Wales – Best Environmental Project.

Sense Scotland, a charity which supports people who are deaf and blind – Best Health Project.

We Were Brothers, a play about Irish soldiers in the First World War – Best Heritage Project.

The Bluebird Care Hampshire Disability Cricket Programme – Best Sports Project.

Hands That Talk, a Derry charity which provides sign language courses and training for deaf people – Best Voluntary Project.

Each category winner received £2,000 to boost their funds and help ensure their continued success. Since the UK National Lottery began in 1994, over 370,000 grants have been awarded and £26 billion has been given out to the arts, sport, heritage, charities, health, education and the environment – approximately 28% of total National Lottery revenue is goes to the “Good Causes” every year.

Replicate this right around the world and it’s easy to see why millions and millions of lives are being improved every day by lottery good causes. However, by far the biggest slice of the pie, the lions share, the deepest cut, is simply reserved for you – by way of prize money, often life-changing prize money, simply up for the taking every time you buy a lottery ticket. The music millionaires top 50 is headed by Clive Calder with a £1.3billion fortune made from the sale of Zomba Records in 2002; he tops the list after Warner Music Group chairman Edgar Bronfman, who was number one last year, moved to the U.S. and is therefore ineligible for inclusion.

Victoria and David Beckham are up two places to 12th with a fortune of £165million.

The Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins tops the young music millionaires list of those aged 30 and under with her £13million fortune, up £2million from last year; equal second place with £12million apiece goes to singers Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis and Katie Melua.
