Eight-five lottery winners – but where’s the prize money!
Friday, January 6th, 2012Question: Fail to key in a crucial bank security verification code and what happens? Answer: checks get returned unpaid! This is exactly what happened to eighty-five Illinois Lottery winners last week when they tried to cash in their winnings at their local banks!
On Dec. 28, the Illinois Lottery issued eighty-five checks to lottery winners with a total value of $159,000 but because lottery officials failed to key in the required security verification code the banks refused to credit all eighty-five account holders with their winnings – red faces all round I guess, and a chance for the banks in question to make a “nice little earner” from extra charges.
The good news is, immediately the Illinois Lottery discovered the “glitch” they sorted the problem and all eighty-five winners can re-submit their checks secure in the knowledge that the missing security validation code has very definitely been entered and all checks will be now be honoured, in addition the state lottery has agreed to reimburse any bank fees incurred – job done!
