Last-Minute Lotto: Couple Claims $1 Million Mega-Millions Prize in North Carolina

One day before the 180 day claim period was to expire, the winning ticket holder of a Mega Millions jackpot, came forward.  The winning ticket was sold to a North Carolina couple, and the husband waited weeks to tell his wife of their winnings.

Miami Ticket Takes Half Of Fantasy Jackpot

There were two winners of the Florida Fantasy 5 jackpot, each who will receive $112,310.83.  One ticket was sold in Miami, the other in Titusville.  There were also several smaller prizes awarded.

$101 Million Powerball Jackpot Is Really Just $49 Million

If you take a lump sum after winning a jackpot, the jackpot
amount is much less than if you were take an annuity payout.  A lump sum is approximately half of the
jackpot amount, before taxes are taken. 
For example, the current Powerball jackpot is $101 million, however if
taken as a cash prize, this amount would be $49.6 million before taxes.

19 Bell Canada Employees Share $32M, For Now

On December 31, 2010, a group of Bell Canada employees won $50 million in the Lotto Max drawing.  The group that came forward to claim the prize consisted of 19 people.  Shortly after they claimed the prize, another 11 employees who participated in the company pool until they were transferred came forward claiming they were owed part of the prize.  The original 19 employees were granted checks for $1.6 million each, totaling $32 million of the pot.  The remaining $18 million is on hold while the lottery investigates if the second group that came forward making claims should receive any of the money.
