Lawyers Claim $16.5 Million Hot Lotto Jackpot
Friday, December 30th, 2011Whew – the cavalry has arrived just in the nick of time! With less than 2 hours to spare before a $16.5 million Hot Lotto jackpot was due to expire at 4 p.m. on Thursday; one year after it was drawn, lawyers representing the, as yet, unnamed winning ticket holders finally made it to the Iowa Lottery offices to stake their claim.
The Hot Lotto ticket with the winning numbers were 3 – 12 – 16 – 26 – 33 and Hot Ball 11, was purchased in Des Moines for the December 29, 2010 draw, but the prize money will not be released until Lottery officials meet with the “actual winners” and the security questions about the purchase of the ticket are answered.
If the 4 p.m. deadline had not been met it would be have been “game over” and the ticket declared worthless! All of the unclaimed prize money would have then been returned to the 15 lotteries that offer the game, in proportion to the percentage of sales that came from each state, for the Iowa Lottery this would have seen around $1.3 million returned, which they would have put into the prize pools for future games.
Sadly the cavalry didn’t arrive at all for another lottery winner earlier this week. The 180 day claim deadline for a winning Powerball ticket purchased in Georgia in the summer expired on Monday right alongside their $77 million fortune.
Remember when you buy your lottery tickets with WinTrillions you don’t ever have to worry about missing out on a prize deadline as we do the checking on your behalf and call you with the results!
