After five years and two Court hearings, Antonio C.M. from Soria, Spain finally gets his €300,000 (US$402,000) prize! Sadly the “fickle finger of fate” was pointing in the wrong direction for Antonio as he somehow managed to lose two of the tickets.

He immediately reported the lost tickets to the Guardia Civil in Almazan (Soria) where he had bought them, but the trail went cold and nothing more was seen or heard about the missing tickets until October 2008 when they turned up again. Antonio now in possession of the missing two tickets challenged the might of the Spanish Lottery operators and boldly re-submitted his claim but the lottery board still refused to cough up the €300,000 prize money.

Bowed maybe, bruised perhaps, but definitely not beaten Antonio took the lottery board to the Spanish Courts, but the judge refused to rule that the lottery board should pay up, even though Antonio had submitted copies of the tickets stamped by a notary to the Courts.

Undaunted Antonio then appealed the decision and the matter was heard this week in Spain’s National Court, where the Judge ruled that there was “indisputable evidence” that Antonio had purchased the winning tickets, and ordered that he be paid the full amount of his prize. RESULT!
