Family Lotto Tradition Pays Big!

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

A Georgia Family had a simple tradition.

Every now and then, one of the family members would pick up a lotto ticket that would be split among the family should it be a winner. After years of small wins, one of their tickets hit it big.

The Skinner family won a total of $132 Million in a jackpot thanks to a quickpick ticket picked up by Phyllis Skinner, 60, the mother of the family.

“The ticket was purchased by Phyllis, which is unusual because she rarely buys tickets but did so that evening,” Skinner explained. “Over the years individual members of the family have all bought tickets representing the family, and it evolved into a tradition.”

After waiting a few weeks to claim the prize, talking to financial advisors and having things put in place, they took the money and are going to use it wisely.

“Obviously it will have significant effects on everyone’s lives,” Skinner said. “The LLC will have opportunity to make significant investments in the future.”

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

A Georgia man won the $42 Million Mega Millions jackpot by matching all of the winning numbers.

Mark Staffa, 33, figured it out Wednesday morning when looking over the MegaMillions website for the results.

“I couldn’t stand up. I just sat there,” he said. “My body went kind of numb. I started breathing erratically, I guess.”

Staffa is a software engineer, and plans to help his parents retire and travel the world with the winnings.

Generous Man Gives Away Winning Ticket

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

A Pennsylvania man gave away $20 in lottery tickets to his relatives for Christmas, one of which would later claim a $1 million prize!

Fred DePasquale is the owner of the Medicine Shoppe and for Christmas was giving away lottery tickets from the store. A total of 35 tickets were purchased, 20 going to his relatives, five to his customers, and 10 staying in his pocket.

One that went to an in-law won the $1 million prize!

Mr DePasquale is a good sport, and says he’s fine with the irony of the situation.

“It was a $20 ticket when I gave it away – not a $1 million one,” said DePasquale.

Ford Employee Says “I’m Outta Here” After Multi-Million Dollar Win

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

David Sneat had been working for the Ford Motor Co. parts warehouse for 34 years.

But it didn’t take him long to say goodbye.

While reading over the lotto results in the newspaper on break his “whole body went numb” as he realized his ticket was the winner of a $136 million jackpot.

“I yelled to the boss, ‘I’m out of here,’” the Livonia man said Thursday after coming to state Lottery Bureau headquarters in downtown Lansing to pick up his first $1 million check.

Though he’s planning on staying in Michigan, he’s going to get himself busy using the new money. What are his plans? First, finishing up the 8 credits he needs for his BA degree in warehousing and international marketing. Next a few fishing boats to soothe his walleye fishing hobby, maybe some laser surgery so he doesn’t have to worry about losing his glasses anymore and, of course, a new, larger home.

Sneath turned 60 on the day he won, making it the most lucrative birthday present the hard working man had ever received.

“I called my sister, she didn’t believe me. I called my daughter, she thought I was nuts,” said Sneath, who said he made his first call to his ex-wife, Deborah.

Deborah, whom he referred to as “my significant ex,” attended the Thursday news conference where Sneath was presented with a large replica of a $136 million check. His daughter was there with her daughter, as was his son, who had bought the winning ticket on his father’s behalf during trip to a nearby gas station to get cigarettes.
