Another Way to Warm Your Heart With Lotteries

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

Do you know why television shows like “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” are so popular? If you’ve ever tuned in, you know exactly why. It’s because we love to see people happy, we love to see their suffering relieved. We love to life turning out just like in childhood fairy tales, and while we watch, we connect, identify with the winners and helpers alike, and in a way, live the experience ourselves.

So if you don’t want to wait until you with the California Lotto to feel really good, you can enjoy the heart-touching ads on Google video and youtube.com.

Watch the first one and related videos pop up when if finishes. Watch family dreams that came true.

If what the new-age gurus preach is true, whatever you regularly focus on is that much more likely to come true in your life.

Tired of the same old tired Hollywood fare? Ready to catch a glimpse at how the rest of the world lives? The indi market now made so accessible lets you do so wherever you have an internet connection.

The short film “El Gordo de la Primitiva“, for example, shows a typical morning for a typical Spanish youth in a typical Spanish apartment. The events that ensue, however, are not exactly typical. I don’t want to give away the ending, so I won’t say any more than that. I won’t reveal, for example, if it has anything to do with El Gordo Primitiva lottery.

No subtitles are really required as the expert cinematography by DMN Producciones makes the story clear. But in case you must know details, here are the three missing translations:

- Five minutes later

-I’m going to the Caribbean to look for Curro (?). I’ll send a postcard.

- Hi Everybody. I’m having a great time in the Caribbean and think I may stay forever. Oh, I forgot, I’ve found Curro. Hugs and kisses, Damian.

What could they possibly mean? Of course I won’t tell you here. I wouldn’t want to spoil the ending for you.
